You got to love chocolate. And most of us do. But unfortunately most of us have also been acclimated to the industrialized and chemicalized versions. So this fantastic, honest, deep chocolate experience of a cookie is a sample of the Lake Champlain Organic Cocoareal deal. We felt that the straightforward chocolate cookie is a great way to reintroduce people to the world of organic chocolate foods.  And you’ll taste the difference. First, they’re made with All Organic Ingredients which makes a big improvement especially with the chocolate. However, if possible avoid chocolate originating from the Ivory Coast. They’ve had a history of forced labor practices there (for more info see “The Dark Side of Chocolate“). And believe me you can get some of the world’s best Organic Chocolate elsewhere. Some people in the know believe that Chocolate from the Dominican Republic is the best…but all I know is that there’s a ton of good stuff out there. If tasting is believing, run out and grab some of Newman’s Own Organic Peanut Butter Cups which uses no chocolate from the Ivory Coast. They taste fantastic.

Then, in addition to the quality of the ingredients, there’s the fresh from the oven advantage. Just imagine how you’d feel about a cookie if at home you mixed in a few artificial colors, some preservatives, then put them in some sort of packaging and let them sit on your shelf for a few weeks before consuming them. I actually think most people wouldn’t eat them at all. If that’s the case then why are we scoffing down the garbage sitting on the supermarket shelves?

That’s reminds me of this big tough talking guy I know. He says things like “Why are you eating all that organic (expletive) for? Eat some regular food, it’s good for you”. By the way this isn’t the healthiest looking guy saying this….But, the strangest thing is, when he grows vegetables in his garden he uses no chemical sprays. The idea of putting poison onto his food disgusts him. But he doesn’t really make the connection that this is organic. Also known by some to be a smart, common sense approach to good food. The bottom line is that he’s OK when someone else spreads poison on his food, he just doesn’t like to think about it. But when he’s there at the scene of the crime as it were, he finds it totally unacceptable. I think if the microwave popcorn lovers were forced to make their own, just once, and add diacetyl from a container that says “Harmful if Swallowed” that would be it. They never would have eaten the stuff.

So maybe we should consider what it would be like if we had to make the conventional store bought, chemicalized cookie. All the way from the farmer spraying poisons on his crops to the cookie factory where we would see something that looks “not-good” and then is added a chemical artificial color until it looks like….something that’s made with unadulterated ingredients aka, organic.

Try these cookies, add some love, fill your house with great smells and share them with others. A printer friendly PDF version of the recipe is available here (Recipe for Organic Chocolate Lover’s Cookies).

Honor the Cookie! Enjoy the wonderful hobby of home baking. Love your food and show the love for those around you. Savor the chocolate and live naturally.
