A classic New York Times Article delved into the subject of whether Organically Produced Food is actually better Food. Here’s what they summarized from several studies…Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry study found that 52% more Vitamin C in Organic vs. Conventionally Produced Corn…Polyphenols were present in significantly higher levels in organic vs conventional marionberries, peaches and pears..European Journal of Nutrition  verified that organic vs conventional soup has higher levels of Salicylic Acid.. As for rebuttal, the conventional food crowd states that the differences are not great enough to translate into any meaningful health benefits…OK.. I guess there’s one thing that can be agreed upon. And that is that Organic Food is different. Different from what it has more of and different from the bad stuff that it doesn’t contain..Things like colors, additives and preservatives…And you know the longer I’m exposed to really thinking about it the more disgusted I am that we are ingesting chemicals unnecessarily into our system. Chemicals…when you think about it it’s sure to disgust.

Ya know there’s also this thing known as the cocktail effect….So you have chemical A and based on no real long term studies appears safe and the same for Chemical B. But what no one knows is what happens when you mix A & B in your system..do you get lethal X? Who knows. The conventional food crowd doesn’t that’s for sure. An article from Coronary and Diabetic Care in UK 2004 states:

“After pressure from NGOs [non-governmental organisations] such as the Soil Association, the PSD has begun testing for multiple pesticide residues in its samples because evidence suggests that when acting in combination, harmful effects of pesticide residues may be increased. The Government has recognised that “?.ignoring the cocktail effects during risk assessment will lead to significant under-estimations of risk” Go here for the complete article summary from Medical News Today.

But the controversy lingers on. For instance the BBC appears to be a bit skitzoid on the subject but maybe it’s just that they are reporting the opposing viewpoints but are not a house divided themselves..For instance in 2007 they reported that Organic Fruits and Vegi’s are better for you than conventionally grown crops, the leading example is that Organically Produced Tomatoes have almost double the level of flavonoids than conventional…huh..However in 2000 they reported that there was no health differences between the types of food (real food verses chemicalized, colorized, injected with poison (preservatives) to keep it from turning bad (too late guys) type of food).  Well, we know organic is generally fresher, better tasting and contains no questionable substances. It’s earth friendly and is a way for us to be proactive with our health. We don’t worry about the cocktail effect for ourselves because it isn’t relevant. We just go on living well because we’re living healthier. Enjoy the benefits from your healthy & wise decisions. Have fun, be active and live naturally.
