As of Jan 2008 it will be illegal to label milk as being free of rbST (recombinant bovine somatotropin) also known as rBGH & Artificial Bovine Growth Hormone as well as using the terms Holstein Cow“Pesticide Free” & “Antibiotic Free”…. As you probably know, this hormone we’re talking about is given to dairy cows to soup up their milk production and the powers that be have decided:

  1. 1. That this is not bad for you.. &
  2. 2. That you, the consumer, shouldn’t be told since you might make a crazy decision such as choosing not to buy it (“It confuses them” according to Mr. D. Wolff Penn’s Agriculture Secretary)…huh..

This is not only a big deal this is actually is a huge deal. The reason is that information that allows us to differentiate products allows us to support the types of products we choose. And where the money flows is where the growth will occur. So we can support a product for strictly health, ethical or environmental grounds and if enough people do this then things will begin to change….Just think of the tons of pesticides not being dumped because people support organic farming practices with their dollars. The people of Pennsylvania should take this extremely seriously and even if you don’t think rBT is a problem should vote the rascals out. Your right to know is something worth fighting for.
