One if the things about going Gluten-Free iOrganic Crop Improvement Association Logos that you have to give up so many great foods. One of these is Pasta which being made from wheat is a big problem. So we bought a bag of the Tinkyada Organic Gluten-Free Brown Rice Pasta to check it out. Here’s what we found.

We bought the spirals which are advertised on the bag as being “Wheat Free, Gluten Free, Good Consistent Texture, Not Mushy, Al Dente”. Seems like they’re really stressing the texture aspect. Well, we cooked it up and tasted with the following observations and results:

  • Organic Certification by the Organic Crop Improvement Association.
  • Kosher Certified
  • Nutrition for 2 oz dry (that’s not much)..200 Calories, 1.5 g Fat, 0g Cholesterol, 25 mg Sodium, 44g Carbs, 4g Protein.
  • Ingredients…”This product is made from 100% quality rice, stone-ground and formed to gourmet class.”
  • Cooked up well as per directions.
  • The smell was really not the best in our opinion. We didn’t like it.
  • The texture was OK as stated on the bag.
  • The taste was not that good in our opinion. We didn’t like it.

Maybe if you doused this pasta in sauce and went heavy on the seasoning it would be OK. But we had plans to evaluate just the pasta naked & raw to see what it was all about. Then after to toss in some extra virgin olive oil and a little salt & pepper. This was never done since we really didn’t like it. Some people do I’m sure and maybe you should check it out for yourself but we here at OTK rated this as a “not our cup of tea” type product.
