Just about everyone was into organic food back in the day. Well this book is supposedly the best of the best from regular people. Some recipes no doubt handed down through the generations. Here’s a couple that are new not so much for the recipe but in what seems like an unusual combination:

I use to be a big believer in prepping and cooking huge batches of vegi’s and storing them to “get it done”. But I’ve been getting away from this for a couple of reasons..First, it’s pretty daunting washing, peeling & cutting so many vegi’s. And even though I’d try to work some music and social aspect into it, it was still about 3 hrs work for the amount of cooking I’d do (I love vegetables). So it took a quite bit of time time at a single setting (and there was that argument the chef’s knife had with [...click to contimue reading...]

So have been running with the experiment of living without Gluten, Dairy, Nuts or Coffee just to get myself totally detoxed and level set to a completely healthy state. And so far the results have been fantastic… am able to go to bed earlier..sleep like a rock and wake up totally refreshed as opposed to being all grogged up from a food sensitivity hangover. Also, we’re talking about feeling this good while getting up at 4:30 AM .. Nice.

Trying to figure out what to do with this site. That is, where should it go to reach more people and to provide a more meaningful experience to those who do visit?  It seems that the natural thing would be to formalize this into a natural foods business where we would provide useful information as well as products that meet the standards of Organic Health and Social/Environmental Responsibility. Available at good prices for anyone no matter where they live. And a percentage of the profits could be plowed back to support worthwhile causes. Just a small [...click to contimue reading...]

I’ve been spending more time travelling lately for my business which makes it even more challenging to live Organic, Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free. There’s a ton of food available out there but the conventional crowd has quite literally fouled it up in one way or another.  Did a few things that didn’t work out.. One was this mix of precooked vegi’s that included things such as sweet potatoes. That didn’t work too well as the sweet potatoes sort of melted as the day wore on and turned into this orange mush. ..Not good.  A few good things [...click to contimue reading...]

Well, we made a few tweaks to the meat eater’s version of Boston Baked Beans (which used the traditional salt pork) and worked out a vegan version. Actually, we found that very few tweaks were necessary. These involved the amount of molasses used, extra virgin olive oil, additional cooking of the onions (to substitute flavor that had been in the salt pork) and adjusting the temperature & baking time (to give a little extra margin of protection between the oven temp. and the smoke point of the olive oil).  And something really nice happened .. these [...click to contimue reading...]

Yesterday I’m gabbing away as usual..finished copping the day’s vegetables. Give the knife a rinse, a dry and starting in for a few swipes across the sharpening stone. Blah blah look away knife swipes across the top of the old thumb instead of the stone. And the knife does a good job at what it’s suppose to do. However, a lot of pressure and a butterfly stitch after and all is well. Maybe the old thumb won’t even get a battle scar (if it does will have to make up some kind of heroic fight [...click to contimue reading...]

Boston Baked Beans is a classic American Recipe. And this is one of the great times of year to put them together..especially if you’re going to be home for several hours due to the weather or football. Anyway, we tried several variations of the classic recipe and have arrived at one that really produces some great beans…

A good quality and sharp paring knife is a must have for every kitchen. This is typically the workhorse for those jobs that demand a smaller knife…Chores such as peeling, deveining shrimp, coring, cutting mushrooms in special ways (we’ll put this up on video feed when available)..anyway those sorts of things.

We recently posted a recipe for Organic Vegetable Soup..After several trials and tweakings we arrived at a great soup…However, when the recipe was transcribed to the post the ingredients and cooking time from an earlier test batch was used..Our bad. Please use Sweet Potatoes instead of Yams or Butternut Squash (and yes there is a difference between Yams and Sweet Potatoes)…and increase the cooking time to 28 minutes..  What happened was that a batch was made up using the posted recipe..A “What happened to the taste and where’s the orange color type of moment”..So if [...click to contimue reading...]
