The day trip with a business associate last week actually turned out pretty well. As you may or may not recall, I was travelling in Connecticut with this guy from New York who was a big conventional eater.

Unlike Vegas, this trip focused on veggies and protein. Made some mixed veggies, tossed them in a little extra virgin olive oil & sliced in some raw garlic for a bit of kick. Then had some fish cooked with a drizzle of olive oil. These were cooled and placed in containers. So on the way down I wolfed and I knew there was a reserve for the drive home. So while with this guy (who by the way is a really decent) I could just skip the conventional garbage you find in the typical lunch spot and just go with a black coffee and a salad.

This really seemed to work at keeping me sharp and feeling good. And after our day I just refueled on the food that was left in the truck’s cooler and made the trip home happy as a camper. .. It seems that the keys for me at least are not to be hungry going into a conventional food situation, opting out of the worse in conventional food while there and knowing that I had some decent chow waiting for me in the truck when we were finished.

Now if you get light headed or need more food than I do throughout the day just bring what you need with you and be upfront about it (and/or choose a restaurant compatible with the organic lifestyle in advance by searching on the web, talking with people in the know etc. ).  Either way the bottom-line solution is planning, testing & refining a plan that works for you. The worse thing you can do is acquiesce to the conventional food world and pay for it by feeling lousy. Forget about it!
