We generally think of organic or inorganic as just the food.. how it came into being, processing, what toxic or healthy residues remain, the effect of it’s production on the earth and human society. .. But what about the “environmental factors” taking place during our dining experience? What’s the deal if we’re lucky enough to have this exquisite meal before us but are exposed to the toxic and really inorganic poisons of the wrong dinner companion?
Well not from plan but purely by accident I was exposed to both extremes a little over a month ago. The first was an intelligent and beautiful lady who came to New England on business. We made several trips to major clients and were actually very successful at acquiring new business and resolving some customer issues. To celebrate she took me out for dinner at a fairly nice place in Boston. The food was excellent, the restaurant’s atmosphere was warm & charming but (and you know where I’m headed with this) the company was horrible. .. Basically I was forced from the salad to the moose to listen to a litany of badmouthing, moaning and whining… the “please make this stop” type of experience.. So, in other words toxic. And since human beings are inherently good .. you could describe this ordeal as being unnatural (inorganic) as well. .. Where was her inner beauty? She certainly didn’t leave the womb in such a sour condition.
Now this is contrasted by a second dinner I had with a new friend about a week afterwards. Like the first woman she was beautiful and successful. But her demeanor .. like a breath of fresh air.. literally (made you feel more alive kind of thing). So sincerely positive.. nothing remotely of that Pollyanna/doing the positive shtick kind of thing but just authentically alive, vibrant and positive. And this “meal” which was only a piece of sirloin and a glass of wine at a local pub was many times the dining experience of the former.
So while we all watch what we put in our bodies it’s just as crucial to be careful of what we allow into our minds. Toxic thoughts, stress and negativity will damage us as much or more so than any twinkie or ding-dong ever will. Go organic physically but also be organic mentally as well.
