Review of Stonyfield © Organic Yogurt, Mango Honey Flavor

Yogurt is really tough to beat when you’re looking for a delicious, yet healthy treat.  And the other day I was looking on all the wonderful flavors and decided to give Stonyfield’s © Mango Honey a go. .. That’s really a combination you don’t see all that often but doesn’t it sound like one of those naturally good parings? And of course it’s Stonyfield©, a really good company that’s located only about an hour away. It is of course organic and has the USDA Organic Seal to prove it. And it’s also low fat which someone like me [...click to contimue reading...]

Organic Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich

Need a quick, delicious and cooling ice cream sandwich? Need it Organic? Need it with virtually NO WORK. Then read on: One of the things I personally don’t like about traditional ice cream sandwiches are they’re not organic, the “cookie” is mushy and they have too much ice cream and not enough cookie going on (for me anyway).  Oh, and they are work if you want to make your own. So here’s a solution that uses all store bought materials and can be put together in no time. Here’s what you do: Go Shopping: Buy a [...click to contimue reading...]

Julia's Biscuit Au Beurre (Butter Spongecake). A Nice Tea Cake Or For Use In Making The Ultimate Strawberry Shortcake

This is a very nice cake, simple, delicious … just enough sweetness. For me, I love to enjoy it plain with a fresh cup of brewed coffee because it isn’t so overpowering in flavor that the coffee takes a back seat. Rather they both share the stage where each compliments the other. Very nice. And, in addition to being delectable as a stand alone cake you can also use it instead of biscuits if you want to bring your Strawberry Shortcake up a notch or two. And this is especially true if you typically use an instant [...click to contimue reading...]

Della Lutes' Organic Apple Dowdy Recipe

We tried the long forgotten Apple Dowdy recipe as described in Della Lutes’ Book “The Country Kitchen”. This is her Aunt’s Recipe from the 1890′s as she describes it and it was certainly around for many years prior to this as it passed from generation to generation. Now Della did not specify Organic “This” or Organic “That” in her recipe simply because everything was organically grown back then. But unfortunately, now we must, since we really have two classes of foods to choose from. One could say ”old-school vs. chem lab” but I won’t … so everything organic and please hold the [...click to contimue reading...]

OK, I’ll be the first to admit that this is too simple to be called a “Recipe”, but heck I have to call it something. Anyway these will be posted in the recipe section along with the old school written versions. Enjoy!

Organic Apple Crisp Recipe

This is an excellent recipe for an Organic Apple Crisp. If you’ve never had Apple Crisp before you’ve got to try it. It’s fairly easy to put together and absolutely delicious. And when you serve it you’ve most people like to serve it warm (not hot) on top of ice cream (organic vanilla of course) or yogurt/frozen yogurt or with heavy cream. .. And a good cup of coffee along with it isn’t too bad either.  Anyway, this is a recipe previously posted but lost in the Yahoo hosting debacle (don’t get me started). I decided to move things [...click to contimue reading...]

Was visiting the other day and the hostess was preparing some fresh strawberries for strawberry shortcake. .. And you know what happened, large bowl, chopped strawberries and a ton of sugar. Into the frig and out comes this very sweet, runny type of deal. .. Don’t want to complain here but it has to be done. Over the top with the sugar and way too watery. Ideally sweetness like salt and pepper is best left to everyone’s personal preference. So after some experimentation we’ve arrived at a yogurt based strawberry topping that’s full of strawberry flavor, [...click to contimue reading...]

We all know how the advertising industry has done a marvelously sinister job in brainwashing many of us into believing that convenience foods are actually good and also “convenient”. OK, case in point let’s compare our homegrown blueberry yogurt against the ..ugh.. pre-made fruit in the cup stuff.  But before we actually get into prep time we need to take a step back and review some of the experimentation we’ve done so far ..  The first thing we tried was just taking fresh blueberries and plopping them into a cup of yogurt (we like using [...click to contimue reading...]

Was doing some smoothie experimentation yesterday and came up with one that tastes like this creamy, evil, delicious milk shake kind of thing. Anyway the key is that it’s non-dairy, no gluten, high protein, high vitamins and very low cholesterol. Here goes: Shopping List: 1 Cup of No-Fat or Low Fat Vanilla Flavored Yogurt 1 1/2 Cups of Mixed Fresh Strawberries, Blueberries and Pineapple (make sure you get a real pineapple and not open a can of something that was grown over 2 years ago) 1 Cup of Soy Milk Note that all ingredients as well as the glass jar of your [...click to contimue reading...]

Well, back from the no-blog vacation (like blogging about food is something I needed a vacation from). Anyway goofed off for a number of weeks, met some incredible people and just up’d everything by two levels. .. It’s been a very, very nice couple of weeks. Anyway, back to Soy Milk.  This is West Soy’s brand. One of those beverage products that comes in a box that needs no refrigeration.. And this is nice especially if you’re roughing it with a backpack in the middle of nowhere. It has this plastic tab kind of thing with a [...click to contimue reading...]
