Last night my date was running late so had to take a detour, run into Whole Foods, made up a couple of salads & bought a pound of wild haddock. Just had time to put something together before heading out the door (had tickets so we had to get out of there). Tossed the salads with some extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. Set aside. Then set out a deep plate so hold some milk and fried the fish: Fried Haddock What you’ll need: 1 Pound of Fresh Wild (not Farmed Raised Haddock) Deep Dish [...click to contimue reading...]

One of the latest kitchen appliances in the past few years has been what is known as single serve coffee machines. The angle being that you make one cup of fresh coffee for immediate consumption. .. And how can we disagree? Most everything (especially coffee) tastes much better fresh. This compared to my parents “coffee” that sits on the coffee maker hotplate burning and turning bitter. Although this is an improvement over the days when they had a percolator which would actually boil the coffee. .. Actually, this is one of my “back in the day how tough [...click to contimue reading...]

Just about everyone was into organic food back in the day. Well this book is supposedly the best of the best from regular people. Some recipes no doubt handed down through the generations. Here’s a couple that are new not so much for the recipe but in what seems like an unusual combination:
Well, we made a few tweaks to the meat eater’s version of Boston Baked Beans (which used the traditional salt pork) and worked out a vegan version. Actually, we found that very few tweaks were necessary. These involved the amount of molasses used, extra virgin olive oil, additional cooking of the onions (to substitute flavor that had been in the salt pork) and adjusting the temperature & baking time (to give a little extra margin of protection between the oven temp. and the smoke point of the olive oil). And something really nice happened .. these [...click to contimue reading...]
