Review Of Teddie Organic Peanut Butter, A Step Up From Just Natural Peanut Butter

It’s a common misconception that eating organically is the equivalent of subsisting on a diet of twigs, roots and berries. This is of course is to the uninitiated who tend to follow in zombie-like fashion a preference for “real food” (as opposed to the radical stuff we like to consume). .. OK then.. So let’s take a look at something radical. Peanut butter made from Organically Grown Peanuts (that is, just peanuts without chemicals of any kind sprayed on them) and sea salt. It’s as pure and simple as that. This is of course is in contrast to the more mainstream peanut [...click to contimue reading...]

Organic Green Peppercorns Might Be Something To Consider

Of all the blog categories to use for this post, “Try Something New” was really a no-brainer. As mentioned before, and before, ad nauseam.. we are generally stuck within culinary boundaries of our own making where we eat an extremely limited variety of foods … day..after day… after day. .. Now don’t get me wrong, Green Peppercorns won’t rock your world as something radically different, rather they’ll expand the old pepper theme with something more subtle … and open the door to other things such as sauces that you may enjoy for the first time. First some [...click to contimue reading...]

A Look At Shaw's Wild Harvest Organic Olive Oil

Opened a bottle of Wild Harvest Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and here’s what I found.

Cultured Organic Butter. A Review of Organic Valley Cultured Butter

Rich, creamy butter. Melting warm and spreading it’s wonderful flavor all over your food. And when the two combine … then magic happens. It’s the difference between a bagel alone and a bagel with beautiful butter melting all over it. There’s really no comparison, and in fact, just writing this is making my mouth water. The French Roast Coffee sitting on the desk is looking pretty lonely right about now … I think I’ll saunter down to Abraham’s Bagels as soon as I finish writing this. .. Well depending upon where you are (the Organic Test Kitchen blog reaches 25 [...click to contimue reading...]

Organic vs Non Organic: Granny Smith Apples. Is there a difference?

We went out and purchased two Granny Smith Apples. One organic and the other conventional. The fist thing we noticed was the price difference, a whopping 30%. Yeah.. but when you’re talking about an apple this amounted to about twelve cents. No big deal. Anyway, we ran a taste test and here’s what we found.

Is Organic Food Better than Non-Organic Food: Organic Popcorn vs. Non Organic Popcorn

We kick off this series with a head to head competition of Organic Popcorn vs. Non-Organic Popcorn. Now as you know, popcorn is a fantastic snack, good for you and good nutrition. I like it’s taste, it’s mouth-feel… even making it is fun. My personal preference is the air popper…easy, no mess and no fat.. plus no saucepan to clean. But, like most natural foods Popcorn has been messed with. With popcorn you have your usual problems of modern mass production methods of spraying, fertilizing etc. which may be “not-good”. Let me put it this way, I just don’t want [...click to contimue reading...]

With all the press in recent months about how Organic Foods are no different than Non-Organic we figured it would be a good idea to run a series to see how true this is. Now of course there will be differences regarding the presence or absence of chemical residues and one will  favor more sustainable farming methods over the other. But these issues aside we thought we’d test drive various food items and put them toe to toe in taste test competitions. Our first such test will be a competition between Organic vs. Non-Organic Popcorn. [...click to contimue reading...]

Had a Rice Cake emergency yesterday (was headed to the beach for a run and realized that I forgot the rice cakes that go along with the crossword puzzle for the essential cool-down/goofing off period that follows). So I headed down to the supermarket to buy a non-organic substitute.  Anyway, after the run and a quick dip in the ocean I sat down with my puzzle and cakes. .. And the first thing I noticed was that these non-conventional ones were thicker. They were also pretty pale looking vs the organic ones which have a nice brown freckling. Took [...click to contimue reading...]

As with all cooking (and as in relationships for that matter) what ingredients you bring in determines what you get out. Or said another way GIGO – Garbage in / Garbage Out. … As we said before one of the biggest favors a cook can do for himself and his guests is to use the finest ingredients possible. And you know what, they really don’t cost that much more, especially if you consider it from an added cost per meal. .. With all the prep, cooking, clean-up time and effort use the best to get [...click to contimue reading...]

Well, back from the no-blog vacation (like blogging about food is something I needed a vacation from). Anyway goofed off for a number of weeks, met some incredible people and just up’d everything by two levels. .. It’s been a very, very nice couple of weeks. Anyway, back to Soy Milk.  This is West Soy’s brand. One of those beverage products that comes in a box that needs no refrigeration.. And this is nice especially if you’re roughing it with a backpack in the middle of nowhere. It has this plastic tab kind of thing with a [...click to contimue reading...]
